http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/06/your-money/planning-for-retirement-dont-forget-health-care-costs.html?ref=wealthmatters
ReplyDeletethis article is about the rising cost of medicare and how people who are about to retire are unaware of the cost they are going to have to pay for medicare. Milton Friedman would be very disappointed with our modern day health care system because being forced to pay for medicare is against our freedom.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/10/us/supreme-court-enters-same-sex-fray-with-uncharacteristic-speed.html?ref=politics&_r=0
ReplyDeleteThis article is about same sex marriage being taken to court. Milton Friedman would be interested in this because he would say that people should have the right to marry who they want and the government should have no say in something so personal.
"U.S. Students Still Lag Globally in Math and Science, Tests Show"
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/11/education/us-students-still-lag-globally-in-math-and-science-tests-show.html?hpw
Milton Friedman would find this article very interesting as it displays the failure of our educational system. While the article merely points to United States students being less academically successful among global standards, Friedman would go as far to attribute this to the lack of choice and competition within our schools. He would argue that if his ideas regarding vouchers were implemented, the achievement of American students could be the greatest in the world.

ReplyDeleteThis article is about how the Fed wants to hold down rates until the unemployment rate gets below 6.5%. Milton Friedman would find this article interesting because he believed in no regulations and he believed that when the government tries to manipulate things in government bad things happen to the economy.

ReplyDeleteMilton Freidman would find this interesting as it has to do with the economy.
http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/12/08/marijuana-legalization-and-states-rights/
ReplyDeleteThis is an article about the legalization of marijuana. Milton Friedman would like this because states are starting to legalize types of drugs. Government should not have a say in this, and the harm that comes from drugs is because they are illegal. Milton Friedman believed if all drugs were legalized he would see the world with half the number of jails and prisoners, thousands of less homicides a year, people not being subjected to being criminals in order to get their drug and being able to get drugs which they are sure of the quality.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/12/science/mandatory-prison-sentences-face-growing-skepticism.html?hp&_r=0
ReplyDeleteThis is an article about how minor crimes still require a mandatory prison sentence. Friedman would say that prisons should only be used to house those who are a danger to others and not those who committed only minor crimes, like possession.
http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/12/08/marijuana-legalization-and-states-rights/
ReplyDeleteMilton friedman would enjoy this article because it is about the legalization of pot.He thinks that law enforcement focuses too much on not harmful things that don’t impact society. For example, drugs, especially marijuana, should be legalized and decriminalized. That is another thing that the government shouldn’t interfere with. He thinks it is wrong that our government is in the position of converting people who are not harming others into criminals, of destroying their lives, putting them in jail.
